Oldtimers from around Moab have told us that the Ranch House building was one of the original homesteads in Moab, Utah, built at the turn of the century. The dwelling was constructed of thick adobe walls and comprises the dining room portions of the house today.

Numerous additions have been made to the house by various owners over the years, including a wrap-around porch, additional rooms, and a second story.

When the Stucki clan purchased the property in 1982, Richard, Marjorie and their eldest son, Brent, began the laborious task of updating and remodeling the entire structure. Originally the plan was to make the house into two rental apartments, and it was used in that capacity for a time. A few years later, as Moab began to transition from a uranium town to a popular tourist destination, that the idea of Sunflower Hill Luxury Inn was born.
